HeRMES (Helping Revitalize Medical Education through Service) is a student-run free clinic which operates in partnership with area health clinics that serve the uninsured and underserved of Illinois. By partnering with existing clinics, HeRMES can leverage the abilities of dedicated, talented volunteers to make the best use of their time while furthering the mission and goals of the collaborating institutions.
HeRMES is operated entirely by medical students with its medical supervision provided by University of Illinois College of Medicine faculty who are also volunteering their time and skills.
HeRMES clinic welcomes everyone and does not charge for its services. While they do operate with limited resources, in most instances the following services are available:
- School and work physicals
- Consultation for acute and chronic symptoms
- Basic lab work
- Prescriptions for some medications (HeRMES providers do NOT prescribe controlled substances)
- Referrals to other free health clinics
HeRMES does not schedule appointments at this time. They see patients on a first-come-first-served basis between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Thursday evenings. Please arrive as close to 6:00 PM as possible.
