Join the Woodford County Master Gardeners on Saturday, April 13 for a morning filled with garden fun and comradery entitled “Gardeners' Gathering, Flowers and Greens for your Table.”
Eating your Greens: Jenna Smith, Nutrition & Wellness Educator, University of Illinois Extension. Add a variety of greens to your vegetable repertoire and explore why they are nutritional powerhouses. You will learn to create flavorful meals and sides using a variety of greens.
From Garden to Centerpiece: Kira Santiago, Kira’s Flowers. Let Kira guide you through a simple, all-season cut flower garden. We will discuss beginner best varieties, growing techniques, using stems from your vegetable and herb gardens and so much more. Kira will also demonstrate how to make a simple yet beautiful arrangement for your table using seasonal stems straight from her fields.
Growing Cool Season Leafy Greens: Ken Smith, Woodford County Master Gardener. Get an early start in your garden this year by trying some leafy greens. Increase your harvest and enjoyment with tasty greens such as Butterhead or Loose-leaf Lettuces, Spinach, Kale or Swiss Chard. By growing these in the cool season, you reduce disease and pest outbreaks that occur during the summer. Together we will start your cool season garden with a make and take planting activity.
Check-in and light refreshments will be available at 8:30 a.m., with the workshops beginning at 9 a.m.
Cost: A $20 registration fee includes morning refreshments, 3 workshops and supplies for container garden.
Registration: Online registration form. Pre-registration is required.
