Join the Livingston County Master Gardeners on Saturday, April 6 for a morning filled with colorful plants and new gardening ideas entitled “A Day in the Garden Patch.”
University of Illinois Extension is proud to present Kelsay Shaw from Possibility Place Nursery in Monee. He will teach us the benefits of switching from Ornamentals to Natives. Natives not only brighten our home landscapes, but prove beneficial to birds, butterflies, and the environment. Kelsay will share before and after pictures of planting gone from regular ornamental to native-based landscaping. He also will discuss native plant benefits, and how to select the right plants.
Bob Streitmatter, Garden Manager of Luthy Botanical Garden in Peoria, will help you with your garden makeover. Want a garden worthy of a magazine shoot? Breathe new life into your garden with a little design, planting, accessorizing, and maintenance. While some of these tips are long-term projects, others can be implemented within a few hours.
A Container Making Party will conclude the event led by the Livingston County Master Gardener. The Master Gardeners will share tips and tricks on planting and caring for your kitchen herbs while assisting you in creating your own "colander herb container" with a mix of herbs to enjoy all summer.
Check-In and light refreshments will be available at 8:30 a.m., with the workshops beginning at 9 a.m.
Cost: A $20 registration fee includes morning refreshments, 3 workshops and supplies for container garden.
Registration: Online registration form.
