These cold winter days can bring on cabin fever. Maybe it’s time to think about outdoor activities the family can do together. Tapping maple trees is an early spring hobby that can be fun and educational and does not require acres of land or specialized equipment. If you are interested in learning how to tap your trees, make your own syrup, sugar and even maple candy the University of Illinois Master Gardeners have an upcoming program on this unique topic. Vermilion County resident, Neil Frazier will explain the steps necessary to make your own maple products. Frazier has learned how to tap his maple trees and makes his own syrup, sugar and candy. Frazier will explain the process step by step and how attendees can get outdoors and learn a new hobby.
