Time:9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Website and/or Calendar Links
University of Illinois Extension is collaborating with local apple producer, Shirley Blackburn, to educate home orchardists and small-scale farmers on Integrated Pest Management and fruit tree pruning. This program will give the skills they need to efficiently produce apples in the Illinois landscape by addressing winter fruit tree pruning and the insect and disease management strategies needed throughout the growing season.
Shirley will show examples of pruned vs. unpruned trees, give tips on different types of trees and guide you while you practice on an actual apple tree in her orchard. She will share her own pest management strategies to keep her apples looking healthy, including hands-on practice with calculating degree days to mitigate or prevent insect and disease pressure.
