Spread the love and celebrate Central Illinois’ small farms this February with Love Local, a winter harvest farm-to-table meal hosted at Richland Community College. Enjoy a delicious, locally sourced Valentine’s Day dinner and dessert prepared by Chef Brian Tucker and RCC Culinary Arts students and meeting the farmers behind the meal face-to-face.
All the ingredients for Love Local come from within 30 miles of Decatur. Supporting regional food providers encourages economic growth, benefits the environment and promotes a safer food supply. Locally grown foods also have more nutrients since they have a shorter time between being harvested and reaching the consumer. Produce grown locally travels an average of 56 miles to market while conventionally grown food travels 1,494 miles, according to a 2003 Iowa State University study.
Love Local will be 6 p.m. Saturday, February 16 at Bistro Five Thirty Seven located on the Richland Community College campus at 1 College Park in Decatur. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for appetizers. Dinner can be paired with a wine of your choice. Diners will also be able meet the farmers, growers and chefs behind their meal during dinner and ask questions about the local small foods industry.
Cost: Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for a couple.
Registration: Reserve tickets by February 1 by submitting the Online registration form or calling the Macon County Extension Office at the number provided.
