Program History

The Hazardous Materials Training Program is one of the areas of focus for the Labor Extension Program at the School of Labor & Employment Relations at the University of Illinois. The Hazardous Materials Training Program provides some of the most comprehensive hazardous materials training in the Midwest. With eighteen years of experience, the program has trained thousands of individuals. Its expert instructors and comprehensive curriculum have earned a reputation for high-quality training.

As a member of the NIEHS Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training, the program provides extensive hands-on training, including the use of respiratory protection, equipment practice and work task performance. Several of these courses are offered in cooperation and partnership with the National School for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

General Course Information

The classes provide training for government agency health and safety professionals who have hazardous materials management responsibilities. Participants from the private sector and non-management personnel are also encouraged to attend.

Upon successful completion of courses, Certificates of Participation and Continuing Education Units are awarded by the University of Illinois.

Program fees for each participant includes a course manual and some instructional reference materials. (Open enrollment classes include a continental breakfast with coffee and tea.) Payments can be made by check or credit card (American Express, Visa, or MasterCard).

The Hazardous Materials Training Program offers outstanding programming to all types of public, private, and government employers on topics like hazard recognition and control, emergency procedures, work practices, and respiratory protection.
