What is SITE?

Student Introduction to Engineering (SITE) is a 3-day fun and interactive informational program offered to high school seniors possessing a genuine interest in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Invitations are distributed in January to the top applicants of the College of Engineering. Every year students from all over the country take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about and even experience life as an engineering student here at Champaign-Urbana.

Design Contests

Participants will participate in various team challenges as a first step in their engineering careers and as a first lesson in what being an engineer is all about.

Department Tours

Participants will tour their preferred engineering departments and hear from both faculty and students in a unique opportunity to learn more first-hand about their intended majors.

Panel Discussions

Engineering students of various backgrounds will be invited to engage participants in an exclusive Q&A session, covering anything and everything about the College of Engineering, campus life and involvement, study abroad, and much more!

Student Life

Participants will be hosted for one evening by engineering students who have volunteered to provide a unique perspective and experience of campus social life. They will also stay for one night in the hotel of the Illini Union, the bustling student center of the Illini community.

Participants will attend a dinner banquet and have the opportunity to meet and interact with the College Deans and department head advisors in a semi-formal but relaxed setting.

Engineering Activities

Participants will be able to explore many of the College of Engineering's resources available to its students, including labs and other attractions, such as the virtual reality CAVE, materials testing lab, wind tunnels, and hydro systems lab.
