The Professional Development Certificate in Horticulture is aligned with the course offerings of the Online MS Degree Program in Crop Sciences. The semester-based course offerings for the online program enable students to strengthen their education through part-time study as they continue their full-time employment.
The Department of Crop Sciences also offers the Professional Development Certificate in Crop Sciences and the Professional Development Certificate in Urban Agriculture.
Prerequisite to Participate: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
What are the General Requirements for a Professional Development Certificate?
- Complete one 500-level approved course (at least 2 credit hours or more)
- Complete two 400-level approved courses (at least 3 credit hours or more)
- Earn a “B” or better (courses with grades of a B- or less will not be counted towards the certificate)
- Take the courses for academic credit. Noncredit courses do not qualify.
Which Courses Qualify
To qualify for a Horticulture Certificate, two of the three required courses must be Horticulture (HORT). The third qualifying course for the certificate can be any online course within the College of ACES.
How Are the Courses Delivered?
Online courses follow an education model that consists of two components: synchronous and asynchronous. The Synchronous (live) component, are class meetings held in a virtual classroom setting where student/faculty interaction is maintained at a high level. Asynchronous (independent) component includes course readings, assignments, and a student Web chat board which is also part of many courses. Using both online components ensures that not only the rigor and quality of the program is maintained but also ensures a high level of success by the students taking these courses.
How Do I Obtain My Printed Certificate?
Upon successful completion of the three required courses, complete the Request for Certificate. You will be notified via email regarding the determination of your request.
What Are the Costs Associated with the Certificate?
Online course offerings are available to in-state students and out-of-state students at the same tuition rates.
