Join Rock Island County Agriculture in the Classroom for one, two, three, or four days of Professional Development OR TWO HOURS OF GRADUATE CREDIT this summer! This year's Summer Ag Institute will feature a theme(s) for the day. If participants wish to receive 2 hours of graduate credit from St. Francis University, all four days must be attended. Professional Development Hours will be available for 7.5 hours each day (non-graduate credit).
On-site visits and presentations, as well as classroom appropriate lessons & activities relating to each topic, will be provided to each participant. Each day will begin at 8 am and we will be finished at 4 pm Specific locations will be sent to registrants upon receiving course payment.
Topics are still being finalized for each day. Potential topics include:
- Natural Resources (Pollinators, Trees, Water, Soils)
- Animals (Equine, Incubation, Cattle, Pork, Fiber)
- Technology (Virtual Reality, Drones)
- Energy (Solar, Wind, Nuclear)
Summer Ag Institute will help pre-K-12 grade teachers integrate instruction about the food and fiber industry into their present curriculum. Activities each day include field trips to local production plants, local farms, or other agribusiness operations. Participants will also learn about agriculture, the food and fiber system, consumer issues relating to agriculture, teaching innovations and available teaching resources.
Apply what you learn in new and unique classroom lessons for easy integration into YOUR curriculum. The sessions provide elementary and secondary teachers a better understanding of the complexity, scope, and scale of Illinois agriculture, its impact on each person's life and on the economy of Illinois and the nation.
Cost: The course fee is $30/day (lunch provided). If you register for all four days you will save $20 (total registration $100)
