Dates and Times

Each concert is approximately fifty minutes long, and four performances are offered this year:

  • April 10, 2017:  9:30 AM & 11:15 AM
  • April 11, 2017: 9:30 AM & 11:15 AM

Information

On April 10 and April 11, 2017,  the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra (CUSO), under the direction of Music Director Stephen Alltop, will present the annual CUSO Youth Concerts in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts

The Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra presents Prokofiev’s symphonic tale of Peter and the Wolf.

This timeless classical music piece has charmed audiences of all ages and helped introduce generations of children to the instruments of the orchestra. Each character in this musical fairytale is represented by a different instrument as the music tells the story of a brave little boy named Peter and his encounters with a duck (oboe), a bird (flute) a cat (clarinet), the wolf (horns), and the hunters (timpani). Loved by children all over the world, Peter and the Wolf inspires the hero in all of us.

Educator's Guide

The educator’s guide contains background information about the musical program, focusing on historical context, composers’ biographies, music education, and the instruments and traditions of the orchestra.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Nancy Boaz.  Schools are accepted in the order in which the online applications are received.  Schools applying after a specific concert is closed, will be contacted to see if an alternate concert time is possible. When an alternate choice is not workable, the school will be placed on a waiting list.

Please Note:  Homeschooled students and parents are welcome to apply.  Please register online.

Cost

The fee for the concerts is $2.00 per student. After the concerts, you will receive a billing from our office for the amount due based on the number of students attending as indicated on your registration form application. This fee is used to cover the costs of producing the teaching materials, to make it possible to provide guest performers for the concerts, to help with the payment of the orchestra players, and other costs in producing the concerts. If your number of students attending changes, please notify Nancy Boaz.
