Activities and Schedule

Doors open at 6 pm in Foellinger Auditorium on campus, with film introductions starting at 7:15 pm.

The 2017 Insect Fear Film Festival (IFFF) will feature a live insect petting zoo, exotic insect displays from around the world, face painting, balloon-insects, many hands-on activities, and a display of entries from local schools for the annual IFFF art contest, with prizes to be announced at 7:00 pm.

Theme an3d Films

The theme for this year’s festival is “Illini Alumnus Paul Hertzberg Insect Fear Films”. Mr. Hertzberg, a 1971 UIUC graduate, is now a successful Hollywood producer with nearly 150 films to his credit, including both of this year’s features. The first film is the SyFy original 2 Lava 2 Lantula (2016), with the fire-spitting lavalantulas that terrorized Los Angeles in 2015’s Lavalantula returning to wreak havoc during spring break in Florida. After 2 Lava 2 Lantula ends, around 9:00 pm, Mr. Hertzberg will be on hand for Q&A with the audience. The second feature is the SyFy original Caved In (2006), depicting the ill-fated attempt of a gang of murderous treasure-hunters to cash in on a subterranean emerald deposit in an abandoned mine who find, along with the emeralds, even more murderous hordes of giant, bloodthirsty rhinoceros beetles. On hand at the festival there will be actual (non-lava-spewing) tarantulas and (vegetarian) rhinoceros beetles that festival-goers can compare to the movie versions. 2 Lava 2 Lantula is rated TV-14 while Caved In is rated R for violence and gore.
