The junior Horsebowl & Hippology Club will meet every Sunday at the Extension office in Princeton from 1-2:30pm through March 19th. Registration for the regional event is due February 17th.

The Regional Competition will be on March 25th, 2017 in Moline, Illinois.

Horsebowl and Hippology is a special interest club available to 4-H members. Youth meet with a volunteer coach to practice for the regional competition, as well as studying practice materials on their own at home.

During the Hippology portion, youth are tested individually on their knowledge of equine terminology and concepts. Horsebowl is a team competition, where youth answer questions related to equine science in a quiz bowl-type format.

Like all 4-H programs, Horsebowl and Hippology provide the opportunity for youth to feel a sense of belonging, develop independence, practice generosity, and experience mastery. In particular, practicing and competing in Horsebowl and Hippology encourages youth to become engaged in learning, to set achievable goals, and to develop and practice self-responsibility.

For more information on this or other 4-H Youth Development programs in Bureau County, please contact the University of Illinois Extension office.
