Description:

Originally founded in 1951, the Department of Kinesiology & Community Health Sports Fitness Program has the distinction of being one of the longest running summer youth fitness programs in the country. The program began as a service to the communities of Champaign and Urbana with the intent of providing an opportunity for children to stay physically active in an organized environment during the summer months.

2016 Program Dates

The 2016 Sports Fitness Program begins on Monday, June 13th and ends on Thursday, August 4th.

  • The program runs Monday through Thursdays.
  • Two, four, six, or eight week enrollment options are available. There is a minimum of a two-week enrollment.

Special Friday Sessions

Special Friday sessions will be offered on June 19th, 26th, July 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. You may register your child for all six Friday sessions, or individual sessions. Please note the capacity of our Friday sessions will be 50 children to allow for special activities.

Program Details

Programming includes options for full or half-day enrollment as well as enrolling children for up to eight weeks of programming. The goal is to provide a quality, developmental, physical activity program for children.

The 2016 Sports Fitness Program will be accepting only 120 children per session and only accepting children 7-12 years of age. The children will be assigned to groups by age:

  • "Cubs" - 7 & 8 year olds
  • "Colts" - 9 & 10 year olds
  • "Bears" - 11 & 12 year olds

Only 40 children will be enrolled in each group per session. In past years the program has filled up very quickly, so with the limited enrollment you will need to register early.
