  • College of Fine and Applied Arts

Bring your curiosity and enter the linked worlds of science, technology, engineering, design arts, and math for a week at an internationally recognized research university. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors will work together to solve environmental design challenges in this new program. Join us for creative innovation!

In this intriguing hands-on program, students will form mock firms to collaborate and solve problems in environmental science, architectural engineering, and design technology. By working on projects and taking campus excursions, you will strengthen your abilities and gain knowledge about professional fields of study:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking, curiosity, adaptability, and initiative
  • Appreciate the skills and imagination needed to design, create, and use technologies
  • Explore architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning

Other Features

Open House and Showcase

Students will showcase their accomplishments from 10 a.m. to noon on July 2. Tours of campus buildings will also be offered.

FAA faculty members, graduate students, and recent graduates teach all courses. Our passionate educators will help you thrive as you get a taste of campus life.

Housing and Meals

Students share rooms in University of Illinois residence halls that are furnished with beds, desks, and dressers. Resident advisors and FAA counselors staff housing areas and supervise iSTEAM participants. All resident advisors are University of Illinois students trained in community building, problem solving, and emergency procedures.

Students staying in the residence halls are automatically enrolled in a plan that includes three meals each day served in the dining halls. Those who select the commuter option are automatically enrolled in a Monday–Friday meal plan that includes lunch and dinner only.

A nightly curfew of 10 p.m. is strictly enforced. All students must report back to their residence halls at this time.

  • Program deposit with application: $50 (nonrefundable)
  • Residential program fee: $700 (includes instruction, evening activities, housing, and meals)
  • Commuter program fee: $500 (includes instruction and evening activities plus lunch and dinner Monday–Friday)

Additional Expenses

Course Supplies

Once you're accepted to iSTEAM, you will receive a course supply list. We expect the items to cost no more than $50.

Spending Money

Although it's not required, it's fun to have $100 in spending money. Most students enjoy shopping at the Illini Union Bookstore for Illinois gear during the week on campus.
