The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) is pleased to invite graduating high school seniors who are former RAP participants and from groups who have traditionally been under-served in the math and science fields, who are incoming freshmen, to participate in the Young Scholars Program (YSP).

Program Description

YSP is a summer and first-year academic experience provided for new freshmen pursuing an undergraduate program of study offered through the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. YSP is designed to provide academic experiences during the summer to create a successful transition to Illinois and increase academic performance during the first academic year for new ACES majors.

To accomplish this, students are invited to participate in a four-week intensive academic review of math, general chemistry and writing skills essential to college success during the summer prior to the fall semester on the Illinois campus. Early peer counseling and career advising are additional summer components. All expenses such as food, lodging and books are covered by the program. Approximately 20-25 students will be accepted into this academic component.

All YSP participants will participate in peer advising and skill development sessions througout the academic year. All students will be assigned to a student mentor who will monitor student performance and provide academic intervention if needed.

Only those freshmen who have accepted their admission offer into a College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences major will be invited to participate in this summer experience. Invitations will be sent in the Spring to admitted students. You must accept the offer of admissions to participate in YSP

Priority is given to former RAP participants.  Early acceptance is important as apaces in the program is limited and provided on a first come basis.
