Description:

The College of Media's new Press Pass summer camp offers high school journalists and their sponsors the opportunity to learn the importance of multimedia storytelling within the journalism/media industry.

Taking place on the University of Illlinois Champaign-Urbana campus this dual track student/teacher program will provide learning seminars and break out application sessions over the camp's duration to offer practice of learned broadcast journalism skills as well as a special session that will cover pedagogical application.

Led by Professor Janice Collins, an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and leader within her field, the camp will place a large emphasis on practicing skills related to online storytelling and more hands-on experience over lecture-style sessions.

Press Pass camps does accept students and their sponsors from other disciplines outside of journalism.

Admission

Students and sponsors who would like to attend Press Pass will need to complete an 2016 Press Pass Application and submit a $25 Application Fee.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in March 2016. All applications are due on or before May 15, 2016. Notification of acceptance will be provided by around the end of May.

Housing & Food

Students and sponsors will stay in a University residence hall. The residence halls are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with staff who are trained to work with high school students. The rooms are air-conditioned and come with all linens (pillow, pillowcase, sheets, blanket & towels). Three meals per day are provided in the residence hall cafeteria.
